Grow yourself – a challenge!

Some people might say that after 5 years of working with agile they are agile experts. Maybe we are. Who knows? What we do know is there is still so much to learn, especially in related disciplines like coaching, and human systems dynamics, and complexity, and …

As part of our work at Growing Agile we set aside time to do our own learning. Part of this is reflecting together, and a big part of it is reading. Books, blog posts, anything that looks promising. I have an ever growing pile of books on my “to read” list, and I seem to add more than I remove.

This year I have decided I will read at least one book related to my work every month. This target does 2 things for me:

  1. It makes me conscious of the goal, so that I don’t ignore the ‘serious’ books on my kindle for too many week in a row
  2. It sets a realistic expectation of how many books I can read, so that I can get honest about the ‘To Read’ pile.

I’d like to encourage you to do the same. To help I’ve updated our recommended book list. It is now more comprehensive and you will definitely find something useful.

So far I’m on track. In January I read “To Sell Is Human”, Dan Pink’s latest book.
In February I’m planning to read “The Culture Game”, by Dan Mezick.

Join me and let us know in the comments what you are reading.

  1. This is one of the most deliberate and excellent ways to support growth.
Many of the books on your list look familiar, and thank you for growing my ‘to read’ pile!
Another excellent one is “The Three Laws of Performance” by Steve Zaffron & Dave Logan.
I’m in the middle of The Lean Startup, brilliant.

Are you going to be doing reviews after each book?
