AgileAus – Kata for Lean Learning

Having followed Håkan Forss for many years on twitter it was great to finally meet him in person at Agile Australia. He ran through 2 kata’s you can use for continuous improvement. The improvement kata and the coaching kata.

Although I know about kata’s, I’d never actually looked at these 2 kata’s in detail, and I am glad Håkan introduced me to them. They are a really simple way to build the habit of continuous improvement. Maybe these could be really useful to people who find their retrospectives have stopped helping them improve. It was also great that he shared real examples of how teams had used them to improve. I love the tangible focus on target conditions and expiry dates.

Here are the sketchnotes from the talk.

  1. I love the simplicity and emphasis on behavior/habits to continue to encourage, coach, lift up and just do. Thank you for this amazing visual!

  2. I like the combination of playfulness and concise concepts. Information has to be both engaging and useful, so this hits on both strokes. Nicely done.
